Welcome to Polokwane Oval
SA vs UK vs SA BARBARIANS
Many racing drivers arrived in Polokwane on Friday for the event and the feeling in the pits was tense. As the track got “rubbered in” laptimes improved and the tension got into the red.
Saturday morning was hot and humid and the United Kingdom drivers arrived with a bang just to annoy the South Africans more.
In the first heat the South Africans ruled the front of the race but backwards the English started to shuffle the South Africans to the rear of the pack. Points in favour of the South Africans.
In the second heat all our confidence went out the window as the English took all the podium places with the Barbarians close on their heels. The South Africans were leaking their wounds and trying to repair their cars for the final.
The English drivers put their top gun on pole position to grab maximum points but in the middle order they were starting to renegade the Sa drivers as well as the Barbarians to the rear. After two major incidents the South Africans were left with 3 members on track and 5 on the infield not able to compete. When the marshalls cleaned the track from spares, body panels and blown egos the English only had to hold station to win. Points for the nights racing UK 190, Barbarians 181 and SA 127.
Other classes also compete at the event and results were as follows:
STOCKRODS: 1 Stephan de Witt, 2 Dirk Badenhorst, 3 Philip de Wet.
1600 MODIFIEDS: 1 Pieter Brant, 2 Fred Cooper, 3 Len Weterman.
HOTRODS: 1 Raulph Nel, 2 Rudy Meyburgh, 3 Neville Loosemore.
SUPER SALOONS: 1 Seun Nel, 2 Ben Smit, Jan Nel.
SPRINTS: Shane Carlson, Johan van Heerden, Riaan Steyn.
Due to the Polokwane Show and a Science exhibition at the showgrounds, Polokwane Oval’s next event is on 28 April.
