Driver Profiles

Take a look at the profiles of our drivers in no particular order by clicking on one of the classes. Below is a short definition of each class.

Rookie class:

This is a class which was created to accommodate youngsters who has never raced before. New drivers usually enter in this class to gain experienc. A competitor as young as 11 years entered in 2008 in Polokwane and is currently the class leader.

Stockrod class:

This is a class unique to Polokwane where drivers enter who does not want to spend a lot on his car but enjoys racing. This is Polokwane Oval's biggest class as some 20 drivers enters every race weekend. Cost to start racing in this class amounts to approximately R30 000.

1600 Modified Saloons:

This is a National class which is contested all over South Africa and it happens that 30 cars enters on a National. Pandemonium brakes loose as all drivers wants to make the first corner first. Cost to start racing in this class amounts to approximately R50 000.

2.0L Modified Saloons:

This is an upgrade from the 1600 class to a 2.0L engine, and imported parts are allowed. Because of this rule a competitive car can cost as much as R150 000. Carburation is open and limited slip differentials prevents the understeer problems created by the lock differential in the 1600 class. Cost to start racing in this class amounts to approximately R100 000.

Hotrods:

This is Ovals ultimate class where slick tyres are allowed(R1500 each) and Rotary engines rules. Top of the range brake calipers amounts to R30 000. Complete cars will set you back close to R300 000 and a further R100 000 for the equipment to keep you on par with the best in the country.

Super Saloons:

This is a class copied from America. Any 6 or 8 cylinder engine is allowed. Polokwane host 8 of these cars and grows every event. A Wesbank V8 is amongst them which nearly fits on this track and the pilot is one of the oldest members of the club. Car cost can be from R50 000 to R500 000

Polokwane Oval is proud to announce that a lot of new driver are joining our racing family.
 
Roulp Nel is joining the rotary class in his E122. Roulp used to race Midgets in Gauteng but moving to Polokwane he decided to join the Hotrod class.
 
Marius Fourie is also joining the Hotrod class in his SR20 Nissan Engine fitted in a silver and yellow peugeot body.
 
Dirk Badenhorts has put his faith into a Hyundai and will be joining the Stockrod class. He is currently coached by Tienie Klopper the Oval Champion in the Stockrods.
 
Marius Roelofse has purchased a Golf Bakkie and the Cat is now amongst the pigeons in the Stockrod class.
 
Martin Ras - Team Koenic has also joined the Stockrods in a VW Golf. Martin has never raced before but will follow Louis, his team mate in the Koenic Team.
 
WINTER TROPHY
 
Polokwane Oval has finished the ground work for the Winter Trophy which will be on 30 July 2011.
This will be the second time the "MONEY RACE" is on the cards. R30 000 rand is up for grabs in 3 classes. During the previoius race in 2010 17 cars were damaged as drivers put everthing on the line to pocket the money. A R200 entry fee will be charged.
